It was our first official night to shoot the night sky and try to get the Northern Lights.  We had set yourselves up right outside of our hotel for the evening to make sure everyone had focus and the basic settings underway.  It had been raining in the area for the past few days, I know Alaska in winter, why is it raining? So it made for a very slippery slick road. Due to the conditions and after about an hour the lights didn’t appear that they were going to really come out most people packed it in.  A few of us decided to brave the elements and slide ourselves down the road to go to the riverbank to get some shots.

This was about midnight, standing just off the snowshelf to stay safe I set myself up to capture this shot looking up river where just a hint of green was in the sky. I sat and enjoyed the sound of the river babbling just beyond our feet when I got this shot.

This was a 10 second exposure at f2.8 at 11mm.
