Doing a little throwback picture for you from about a year ago. This is when I hightailed it up to Canada for a few days. I was in Yoho National Park in British Columbia, taking a hike around Emerald Lake. I had just finished doing up a sunrise timelapse when I turned around and saw this little chipmunk guy running up this little tree, kinda hiding out from the brief rain shower that had come down. He took a second or two and we locked eyes for a moment.
I wasn’t prepared to see him so I quick snapped a few shots and realized my settings were way off and wouldn’t grab the shot. I was at 1/500th of a second at ISO 50. The picture was near black as he was in the shaded part of the thicket and I was just focused on the sunrise off the lake. I quick changed my settings to get the next shots but he had moved into a different position that wasn’t as ideal.
Thankfully I shoot in Raw format so I took it home and thought what the hell I’ll take a look to see if there is any way to save the shot. Oh I was so happy I was able to edit it back in with enough light and it turned out to be one of my favorites overall. Wildlife is tricky and you have to be ready for it and maybe just maybe you can get the shot.
