So when I’m at home I’m a bit of a birder. I remember as a kid my mom would have bird identification books around and oddly enough I even remember a teacher in elementary teaching us about certain birds and how to identify them by their various calls. As I renewed my passion for photography beyond travels awhile back I found I really enjoy taking pictures of birds. Even more fun when you get that shot of when it’s a bird in flight, and its just fun generally watching their behavior. I think living on the water helps as I get a lot of migratory birds coming through to take a break between their travels.
Africa has so many beautiful birds! I am tempted to go back during their rainy season when birding is really at its peak. In Tarangire park the birding was exceptionally plentiful and my guide was amazing at finding all of them and letting me just sit and watch.
This colorful little bird is the Lilac-breasted Roller, one of the many shots I got of this little one. I am sure you’ll see more of the shots at some point. This particular photo was taken with my D500 and my Tamron lens at 460mm at f8 and 1/250th of a second.
